Waste Reduction and Recycling: Closing the Loop
In line with our sustainability mission, TN Corporation has developed an innovative recycling program that reuses tiles that don’t meet quality standards. Instead of discarding these tiles, they’re ground into powder and incorporated into future production. By reintroducing these recycled materials, we significantly reduce waste and contribute to a circular economy. Additionally, TN Corporation collaborates with other tile manufacturers, supplying recycled material to reduce industry-wide waste.
"Our goal is not only to make beautiful tiles but to set a new standard in sustainable production. By recycling our own materials and sharing resources with other companies, we’re taking real steps to reduce waste in our industry," says James San, President for TN Corporation.
Clean Energy Commitment: Hydropower and Solar Energy
A significant part of our sustainability journey lies in our commitment to renewable energy. TN Corporation’s production facilities are powered entirely by hydropower, resulting in a near-zero CO2 emissions process that drastically reduces our carbon footprint. Hydropower enables us to operate with high efficiency while protecting the environment.
In addition to hydropower, our Sugy facility supports its operations with solar energy, providing around 80% of its electricity. The Hatsu series tiles from Sugy are crafted using 52% recycled materials, exemplifying our commitment to eco-conscious building materials.

Tajimi City’s Ceramic Legacy: A Heritage of Natural Resources
Our connection to Tajimi City gives KAZOKU Tiles a unique story rooted in centuries of tradition. Over four million years ago, Tajimi was an ancient lake, providing the sand and clay that now forms the base of our tiles. As a historic centre for ceramic production, Tajimi’s natural resources and skilled artisans create tiles that are both beautiful and durable.

Collaborative Sustainability: Preserving Tile Culture in Tajimi City
Beyond environmental efforts, TN Corporation and KAZOKU Tiles are committed to cultural preservation. In Tajimi, we partner with local artisans, sharing a collective vision of maintaining the region’s rich ceramic heritage. By supporting local craftsmen, we preserve the unique tile-making techniques passed down through generations while promoting a low-impact, sustainable production model.
The Future of Clean Energy: A Lasting Impact
Continuing its investment in renewable energy, TN Corporation recently completed a second hydropower facility on Japan’s Kyūryū River. This facility ensures a stable and sustainable energy source, even during seasonal variations, and has a projected lifespan of over 100 years. The initiative exemplifies TN Corporation’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
Revenue from these energy projects is reinvested into local communities, funding environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and regional development. This dedication to sustainability ensures a lasting, positive impact on both the community and the environment.
